To this day, Istanbul is one of the most popular places to invest in Turkey for locals as well as foreigners.
The Turkish government has invested huge amounts of money in infrastructure projects in Istanbul in recent years. This shows its interest in maintaining the city attractive to its residents. It will contribute to the price of your property being preserved for many years to come.
The Eurasia Tunnel, inaugurated in 2016 now links the two sides of the city between Kumkapi on the European part to Kadikoy on the Asian side in under 5 min.
A 3rd Bosphorus bridge, the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, also opened to traffic in 2016.
Istanbul Halivimani, a brand new airport with a capacity of 20 million travellers per year has supplanted Istanbul Attaturk airport for passenger flights since 2019.
The pharaonic Istanbul canal will start in the years to come and will reduce the freight traffic in the Bosphorus.
Istanbul’s many shops and nightlife will keep you entertained. Families will also enjoy a cruise on the Bosphorus or a quiet stroll in green Bebek.
Most residents in Istanbul speak English, this is not necessarily true in other parts of Turkey.
Istanbul has been known for some of the worst traffic in the world. Fortunately, this is partially solved by the recent infrastructure updates and the city’s excellent public transportation system.
In Istanbul, you’ll feel part of a long line of people having lived in a unique place.
Indeed, history pervades Istanbul and the city is home to 15 historic sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, the Topkapi Palace, the Basilica Cistern all attract millions of tourists every year. In 2014, Istanbul was the 6th most visited city in the world.
The weather in Istanbul is warm and humid from June to September. The winters are cold, with regular snowfalls.
Istanbul has been an imperial capital for more than 1500 years under 3 different names. Its first name, Byzantium, was given after it was colonised in the 7th century BC by king Byzas of Megara. The Greek King immediately recognised its strategic position commanding the entrance to the Aegean sea through the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea through the Bosphorus.
In 330 AD, Byzantium was renamed Constantinople in honour of the Roman emperor Constantine who legalised Christianity in the Roman empire.
In 1453, Mehmed the conqueror captured Constantinople and the metropolis stood as the seat of the Ottoman Empire until 1923.
